Natchitoches Parish Fatal Crash

Earlier today, a single vehicle crash involving a motorcycle killed a man from Westwego, LA.

Troopers responded to the crash around 9:00 am, which occurred on I-49 approximately 20 miles south of the Natchitoches exit (138 exit). The crash involved a 2009 BMW motorcycle, driven by Lyle A. Grimes (W/M 79 yrs). The motorcycle was south bound on I-49 when Grimes lost control and exited the right side of the roadway. After exiting the roadway, the motorcycle began overturning which resulted in the driver being ejected.

Grimes was transported to Natchitoches Parish Medical Center where he was pronounced dead. He was wearing a helmet.

The crash remains under investigation. Routine toxicology tests are pending.

Troop E Troopers have investigated 44 fatal crashes for the year of 2009, resulting in 53 fatalities. Twenty-five of the 34 fatal crashes (passenger vehicles only) have involved unrestrained motorists/occupants. Three crashes have involved a motorcycle, three have involved a pedestrian, and two have involved an off road vehicle. Seatbelt use is unknown in two fatal crashes.
